Nothing in the title of this article is a coincidence, and you will soon understand that. Cyberpunk 2077 It’s an instant, timeless classic at this point that sticks with you when you play it. In my case it was late 2022 when I started my journey in Night City, and by chance I completed the last main mission on January 1st. The year 2023 has just begun, the year Johnny Silverhand carried out a terrorist attack on the Arasaka company tower.
On top of that, I thought it appropriate to dedicate a good chunk of the role to the good Silverhand, a fascinating character who quickly became one of my favorites of anyone I’ve met in video games. . But before getting fully involved, I must clarify that in this article you will not find objective evaluations of the game of CD project. This time I will share my experience with you all (spoilers included). You are notified if you have not completed the game yet.
“Now I have the chips and the implants…I have the right attitude…I have the metal under my skin…” accompany me on my return to the city of neonnot.
the city catches up with you
As you already know, Cyberpunk 2077 Allows the player to choose between three different “pasts” for V
From that moment, we begin to realize the magnitude of video games, of the colossal work that CD Projekt RED has built. Even with its flaws, the game manages to captivate you through a spectacular night city, who rightly becomes a figurehead from the start. Being such a hostile and decadent world, it is hypnotic to walk through each of the neighborhoods. The “megabuildings” intertwine in an overloaded Skyline, which completely swallows the sunlight.
NPCs meanwhile are plentiful depending on where you are. Obviously there will be more “movement” on the screen when we pass through the business center of the city, while the suburbs or industrial areas will be less populated. But all the inhabitants have one thing in common; paradoxically they are different. I don’t remember coming across two identical NPCs, either in the middle of the street or inside any building. In addition, these are not lacking in detail, while sporting a flashy and quirky look so typical of Night City. Impossible not to notice each of them.
technical waste
The Night City experience is an audio-visual spectacle from start to finish. Since I started in this lonely workshop in the middle of the desert until I finished my adventure, Cyberpunk 2077 He maintained an exceptional level at all times. And it is that even with its flaws and its virtues, the game CD Projekt RED reaches a technical balance worthy of the new generation of consoles
I often tend to gape at the way the rays of light penetrate through the few cracks in Night City. A carefully worked lighting, which affects both the interior of V’s apartment, the cars or offers you a magnificent sunset in Pacífica. In addition, having opted for first-person gameplay makes the interaction with the world even more spectacular.
The same thing happens with the climatic elements. Those of you who have read this for a while will remember my impressions of Forza Horizon 5. In this game, there are storms of all kinds, including sandstorms; In Cyberpunk 2077 Also. On top of that, you can see how the rain hits your vehicle windows with the first person camera as you drive through the city. It’s those little-big details that help make this game different.
It must be said that in my case I played the whole game in performance mode (4K/60fps), since the quality mode decreases the experience a lot. Frame drops and ray-tracing visual saturation nipped the experience in the bud. Even so, the performance mode works and looks so exaggeratedly good that you won’t miss playing in other conditions.
The key is in the relic
If the frame is one of the most powerful elements of Cyberpunk 2077It is without a doubt her story that has permanently nailed me to the seat. The screenwriters from the Polish studio have shown why they are the best at this level, with a few privileged ones, a purely “Rockstar” level. The key to the story is in the relic.
Thus begins the adventure; a stunt gone wrong, and a prototype biochip that “accidentally” ends up in our heads. The mysterious construction it houses inside soon shows signs of life, and the great Johnny Silverhand appears on the scene. From this moment, the game presents the constant duality in which V will be immersed, which is already a success.
The character of Keanu Reeves is fascinating, and not only this one, but those secondaries that are not so secondary, which help to expand the narrative and, therefore, the relationships of the protagonist. Judy, Jackie, Evelyn, Panam, Yorinobu, Takemura… Everyone has a past and also a purpose, their own identity that goes beyond an NPC telling you what to do or where to go.
But even above the characters, of a Johnny Silverhand who consumes us little by little, Cyberpunk 2077 unveils a debate as deep as it is timeless; Should humans live forever?. Thanks to the Relic, the good Johnny is still alive, as Arasaka managed to pierce his conscience (not his soul) after being killed the day of the attack on the Corporation Tower. All this framework, in addition to an end which reveals, once again, the moral dilemma of eternal life, makes Cyberpunk 2077 a brilliant proposition in its narrative.
I’ve traveled to worlds you’d never believe, only to end up with enemies that defy mysticism. I felt my pulse quicken with each battle, and the sigh of someone who knows they will have to get back up. There’s always a villain waiting and an adventure around the corner.
