Final Fantasy 16 is coming. soon. The game is less than a month away at the time of writing, so it stands to reason that Square Enix’s marketing machine is in full swing. Today, at the PlayStation Showcase May 2023, the publisher and developer unveiled a new trailer for the game–you’d have to be hard-hearted not to get excited about what’s on offer.
It’s big, it’s bold, it’s tense–it has all the hallmarks of Final Fantasy trailers from years past. Even if the game does end up straying somewhat from the classic Final Fantasy formula, it’s nice to know that the scope of the film and heart of the blockbuster is still there.
what do you think? It’s a nice display – befitting of the first PlayStation showcase we’ve seen since late 2021? As an important game on the PS5 roster, I think it hits on a very specific question.
The trailer really lives up to everything we’ve seen from the game so far–whether it’s the glowing praise from our very own Alex Donaldson in his Final Fantasy 16 preview, which went live yesterday, or my PS5-specific review. Made this game earlier this year. You can see why the developers are so confident in the game that they don’t think it even needs a Day One patch.
Final Fantasy XVI will be released on PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. No word yet on whether the game will be coming to PC or other consoles in the future (but we’re sure it won’t be coming to other platforms for at least six months).
