The Witcher series is gearing up for its big comeback, but we learn that Netflix has had to make a pretty radical decision regarding Henry Cavill.

Story that the public understands the decision a little better. So showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich shared some more information about what will happen after Season 3. Could the show have ended?
Henry Cavill and his departure
Not long ago, Netflix revealed that the third season of The Witcher would be Henry Cavill’s last, much to fans’ disappointment. Given the popularity of the series, it was unsurprising that Netflix confirmed that the company had opted not to finish the lead, but instead to recast the lead. Liam Hemsworth, brother of Chris, who we know stars in hunger games will reprise the title role. And despite his talent, fans are already regretting the Superman interpreter’s departure.
Apparently, Netflix had left the decision to end The Witcher project after Cavill’s departure to the creators but these felt that there was still too much story to tell to give it all up. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explains:
I mean, we had a choice to take down Geralt and end the show, but we weren’t ready for that. There are still too many stories to tell.
A third option, which was to simply bid farewell to Geralt and steer the story toward a new character, was also unacceptable to the team, according to Hissirch, who narrates:
If we were to replace Geralt with another witcher, we would move away from the books completely, and I don’t think anyone wanted that either.
As for Hemsworth’s performance in Season 4 of The Witcher, she’s full of praise:
We’re all excited about the arrival of Liam… He has a very heavy burden on his shoulders, but he also has a lot of energy and a lot of anticipation for it. It’s obviously a brand – a new chapter for us. And there are a lot of emotions involved. But at the end of the day we love what we do. So let’s continue.

The upcoming third season of The Witcher will be released on June 29th. As for season four, we don’t yet know when it will air or even tour.
