A good part of televisions and players that integrate Android TV as an operating system offer access to the most important platforms through a button on the remote. Netflix is the one that offers the most options to watch, including access; button which may become useless if you have canceled the subscription to the platform. So, do you want to give this button a new use? It’s not complicated at all: you can fully customize your Android TV remote.
Thanks to the extreme customization that is standard on all Android devices, televisions with the system adapted to large screens also have launchers with which to change the appearance, we can install applications to free up space and even customize aspects specific such as the buttons on the remote control. Keeping a specific number to launch an application, for example, is also possible “remap” buttons that manufacturers typically include with streaming service names. This customization takes even more advantage of Android TV.
With Button Mapper you can customize any button
When you have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and other platforms, it’s great to have a direct button on the remote to instantly launch the app with. And of course, if you cut your relationship with Netflix, and on top of that you should see its icon every time you grab your Android TV remoteWell, what less than with the press it behaves as you want it to instead of opening an application that no longer works for you.
The app we offer is Button Mapper, an old smartphone acquaintance that also provides service on Android TV. With her you can change the operation of any button included in your remote; either those of power, or those of volume. Obviously Button Mapper’s greatest use is to change the use of those buttons you don’t use, which is exactly what happens with Netflix. Or with the rest of the services you have access to directly from the remote control.

Application to change the functions of the physical buttons of Android
The first step is the most usual: you must access the installation of Button Mpper on your Android TV. Search it on App Store or download it remotely from your mobile or computer. Then press configure the desired button.
- Go to your TV settings and enter “Accessibility”.
- Activate the “Remap Buttons” option.
- Open Button Mapper on your Android TV and enable Accessibility Service for the app.
- Go back to the application menu and click on “Add buttons”.
- Click on the “+” then on the Netflix button on your remote control.
- Once the button is created, click on it to configure it.
- Check the “Custom” switch, go to “Actions” after entering the one-click menu, and choose the app you want to open with your Netflix button.
- Once configured, Android TV will open the app you chose when you press the button. You can add more actions to this button by long pressing, for example; as well as reconfiguring the rest of the command.
With Button Mapper, you can breathe new life into your TV remote and change these buttons that have become obsolete, as is the case with shortcuts to platforms. So you won’t have to lose any buttons; no matter how much you keep seeing the Netflix logo, for that there is no other solution than sticking a sticker on top.
