The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has experimented a disappointing start since launch last week. So far it is considered one of the biggest flops of the year so far. This action-adventure title has received strong reviews and currently has a rating of 36 on Metacritic. Its developer, Daedalic Entertainment, issued an apology for the state in which it was released. However, it seems that the study has not finished working on the universe of The Lord of the Rings.
According to reports from game economy, in June last year, Daedalic Entertainment received a grant of over $2 million from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The grant is mentioned as part of the development of “a new project that will transport the player to a lush world full of mythical creatures and magic“. Additionally, it will tell a story from the perspective of a character that has never been explored before.
Although this description may suggest that it refers to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Games Wirtschaft reports that the grant money was not used for its development. He claims that is for another project based on the works of JRR Tolkien. According to the grant, this project is expected to be completed within second half of 2024and its development apparently began last year.
If this new game concerns another title of The Lord of the Rings, it remains to be seen whether this will be a direct continuation of Gollum. Current information is limited, but fans will no doubt be eager to find out what the future holds for Middle-earth.
