Italian-American stand-up comedian and actor, Sebastian Maniscalco, revealed in a recent appearance on Live! with Kelly and Mark that he applied for the voice of the iconic Mario in the movie The Super Mario Bros. He auditioned and was unfortunately rejected, but was offered the role of Spike. Maniscalco says he was grateful to be a part of the film and says Chris Pratt, who played the role of Mario, “did a great job.”
“Everybody said, ‘How come they didn’t cast an Italian American for the part?’ So I read about Mario, and I went there, and I did the whole, ‘It’s me, Mario!’ And then they said, ‘We’ll give you Spike.’ Apparently, that didn’t work. So it was great to be a part of that movie, it’s a big deal, and Chris did a great job.”
