On June 2nd and 6th, Blizzard will get down to business, because then one of the biggest launches of the year will start. After several beta tests along with server slam, Blizzard is optimistic.
The number of launches of online games that went even halfway smoothly can be easily counted on the fingers of one hand and Blizzard also knows a thing or two about it. Whether it was Diablo, World of Warcraft or Overwatch – something always went wrong.
But Blizzard also knows what high expectations are placed in Diablo IV, especially after PC titles in particular have crashed one after the other this year. But Blizzard is apparently optimistic about the launch of Diablo IV, mainly based on the experience of the beta tests and the server slam.
“We learned a lot from each of them,” Fergusson says of the various playtests in a new interview with GamesRadar+. “We feel better, we have a good feeling about all the things we’ve learned,” adds the general manager, citing his optimism as the fact that developers are basically “never” able to play players fully reproduce trying to connect to a game via a playtest.
Fergusson says: “We did everything we could to make opening day as smooth as possible. And we have a good feeling about where we are. But never say never. It could be a little bumpy on day one , but we hope that, like these weekends, we will learn and adapt.”
The launch will be particularly exciting because it will take place at the same time worldwide and not regionally staggered. After all, the experiences of the players allow some hope. Despite the massive onslaught, apart from one or two queues, there were only a few real problems on the first day, and the beta phases went extremely smoothly on the following day. Well, we’ll see what happens…
