in the world of Pokémon Infinite secrets and curiosities abound, but one of the eternal questions that has always arisen is, what do humans eat? Because it is assumed that there are no real animals, something that has been denied on more than one occasion by certain scenes, although that is something that will have to be discussed at another time.
So if there really are no animals of any kind, how can they possibly eat meat or fish? Well, if you are fearing the worst, yes, you are not wrong. Although it hasn’t happened too many times, the anime series itself and even the video games in the saga have confirmed on more than one occasion that people eat pokemon.
That is to say, not only do they have enough to capture them and force them to fight for them in combats in which they receive sovereign beatings, but also in a few cases they cook and eat them. And you only have to take a look at certain episodes or moments that some of the titles have left us to verify that it is not an exaggeration at all.
Ash may be the best trainer in the world, but he has no heart
Despite not having changed his appearance or aged one iota, after more than 25 years in which he has starred in more than 1,200 episodes, Ash Ketchum became the best trainer in the world. A priori he could be an example to follow for anyone who wants to become a Pokémon trainer like him, but not everything in Ash is so good.
Neither short nor lazy, on more than one occasion he has admitted that he would love to eat a dish in which the main ingredient is some pokemon. For example, the poor Magikarp is seen as not having enough with not being able to do practically nothing, but they can also serve for a really delicious dish.
This is how the group of protagonists drops it in episode 16 “the pokemon shipwreck” at a time when everyone, including the members of Team Rocket, find themselves stranded in the middle of the sea on top of a raft. Fatigue and hunger seizes them, at which time when they see the Magikarp that accompanies them these phrases are released:
Ash: I need to eat something, like carp fillets…
Brock: the fried carp
Jesse: the marinated fresh carp
James: flame carp
And that’s just when Meowth launches for him to bite him. A Pokémon trying to eat another Pokémon! But don’t worry, things are not going to get worse, because their scales are too hard, to the point that Misty says that “in the Pokédex you can see that Magikarp is all scales and bones“.
Still, assuming Misty is right, there are other Pokémon that seem to be more delicious and they are so scarce because the population eats them. This case applies to Farfetch’d, because in episode 46 “So close, and yet so Farfetch’d“The Pokédex itself indicates the following about them:
Farfetch’d is a delicious meal, especially the ones with leeks. For this reason the Farfetch’d are almost extinct.
However, Ash prefers to look for one to capture it, although Team Rocket meets a Farfetch’d later and as soon as James sees it he states “should taste goodAl Final, neither the first manages to catch it, nor the other eat itso at least there are still species alive.
We have another of the most curious cases in episode 18 “Tentacool and Tentacruel“, when the protagonists meet Nastina, a very ambitious and selfish lady who wants to build a luxurious hotel in the middle of the sea, regardless of whether it affects the ecosystem, but the Tentacool and Tentacruel are hindering her progress. That leads her to affirm about these pokemon that “they’re disgusting, they’re not even edible“.
In other words, it seems that at some point someone, or she herself, has tried to feed on these Pokémon. The same example she tried to follow James in episode 47″Who will get to keep Togepi?” when Team Rocket steals Misty’s unopened Egg containing Togepi, whom your mouth is watering just thinking about how to cook it:
So, do we do the fried egg or could we do a scrambled or…? I know! We will cook it with a little rice.
Luckily Meowth hits him with a frying pan to prevent him from committing a crime. But what is curious is that, if you look closely, all these cases correspond to the first season of the anime series, so the fact of eating the Pokémon must not have been seen with a very good eye and they have not become to produce such noteworthy cases in more chapters.
Video games have not fallen short at all
On the other hand, in the videogames themselves this fact has not been ignored, because In a multitude of titles in the series, it has been confirmed that Pokémon are food. This has been happening especially since the second generation, with Pokémon Gold and Silver, when it was revealed how precious Slowpoke’s tails were, since Team Rocket wanted them to traffic with them for the amounts that were paid due to their flavor.
Surely you have to be very cruel to cut the tail of these Pokémon and use them as a delicacy. Of course, even worse is cooking any species, and even showing it directly!, as happened in Pokémon Sword and Shield, because in these editions there was a minigame to cook dishes and one of them is to put your hands to your head .
The striking thing about this dish is its appearance, because it is clearly seen that a Kingler has been cooked when protruding among the ingredients its crest and one of its tweezers. Ok yes, in real life there are people who eat crabs, but in games it crashes too much. In any case, in these same Nintendo Switch games, the Pokédex reveals that there are as many Pokémon that are used for certain foods.
For example, the berries that decorate Alcremie are edible, Barraskewda’s meat is said to be surprisingly tasty, Shuckle’s is mentioned that his bodily fluids are used to turn them into delicious juices, while Appletun’s entry highlights that the skin of his back is very tasty and children usually eat it for snacks.
Yes indeed, the current generation is not far behind at all, because in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple we also find other similar cases. In this sense, it is highlighted that Nacli’s salt was shared with humans, that Toedscool’s legs are chewy and delicious, or that Veluza’s meat has a soft and rich flavor.
So next time Don’t get too attached to the Pokémon you catchbecause you never know when they will stop being your companions to become your favorite dish of food.
