Former Dragon Age author David Gaider speaks out against artificially generated dialogues in games.
Dialogue in video games written by an artificial intelligence is soulless. So said David Gaider, former writer on BioWare’s Dragon Age franchise.
Gaider was responding to an article by The guard. It was about AI-generated dialogues in a game demo. BioWare also tried to do this, but always failed because the writing was lackluster and soulless.
“Each time, the team collectively believed—believed deep down—that this was possible. Simply within reach. And each time, we found that even if the procedural instructions were human-written, once assembled, the end result was… lackluster. Soulless.”
Gaider also said that the content generated by the AI was superficial. She would never get past the basics of a quest.
