Laptops have built-in speakers and most computer monitors have them too. Of course, the quality of the sound output is another story, which is why in the absence of external speakers, they can get them out of trouble. But if your computer speakers aren’t working, aren’t working as they should, or you just want to enjoy your phone’s speakers, with this application you can turn your mobile into a portable speaker.

The application in question is Audio Relay and it is used for stream audio from wired and wireless Android phones. Or vice versa, as we will see later.

To connect the phone to the computer, you need to install the PC version of AudioRelay, which you can do if you already have Android, macOS or Linux. Or even, on another Android device like a tablet.

Because when the app is installed on both devices, you can choose which acts as speaker (player) and which as sound source (server).

How to use your phone as a speakerphone for another device

For this article, we used an Android phone to use as a speakerphone and as servers, an HP Pavilion computer with Windows 11.

First install the application on your phone and with the appropriate file on your computer. Enter the application on the computer and open it to run the installer. Make sure to leave the four options you see under these lines checked:

Some computers require a restart after installation. After installing the application on both computers, it is necessary that both are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Now go to the phone app and on the first screen tap ‘Begin‘. In category ‘Server‘ on the drive page, you should find your computer. Otherwise, update. Tap their name to start the connection. We are going to use our phone as a player.

From now on, when you open the app on your computer, you will see your phone in ‘Connections‘ inside the Servers page.

Now you can play any sound from your computer and it will play on your phone. Note that you can also adjust the phone volume from the computer. To stop the audio transmission, just touch ‘Stop‘.

If you wanted connect various devices such as speakers to mount a kind of stereo in different directionsthen you would need the premium (paid) version, but for a single speaker the free version works (the other downside is that it has ads).

Note: the functions do not stop there, since they you can use your android phone as a microphone for your computerwhich you can do by going to the Player page on your computer and choosing the microphone option.

Seven tips to improve the sound quality of your Android phone

No Wi-Fi or bad latency? Wire them up

The problem with the wireless connection is latency. I used it to see snippets of episodes from a series and it was invaluable, but if the latency increases or if you cannot connect us on the same Wi-Fi networkyou can opt for the wired connection.

The variant is to first connect the computer and the phone so that once they are recognized, the ‘USB tethering‘.

Now enter the ‘Settings‘ and mark ‘USB-modem‘. Now in the ‘Servers’ section of the phone app select the computer and in the computer note that in ‘Connections‘ will be your mobile: you can now play sound on the computer and make it ring on the phone.
