Welcome to our weekly Apple Breakfast column, which includes all the Apple news you missed last week in a handy bite-sized summary. We call it Apple Breakfast because we think it goes great with a Monday morning cup of coffee or tea, but it’s cool if you want to read it during lunch or dinner hours as well.
Apple’s fourth revolution
A week before the igamesnews San Francisco keynote kicked off on January 9, 2007, Apple updated its New Year’s Day website with a cryptic message that read, “The first 30 years don’t were just the beginning. Welcome to 2007”, an obvious teaser for the expo. But until Steve Jobs took the stage and said, “Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along and changes everything,” no one had a clue what was about to happen.
It’s hard to believe in a time when everything leaked, but we really had no idea that Apple was planning to shake up the mobile phone industry with the iPhone. There had been rumors for years that Apple had experimented with an iPod capable of making calls – there was even a joke slide in the keynote about it – but nothing had reached the level of imminent release. , so it was not clear what it was. in reference to.
This time we know. When Apple writes “Coding New Worlds” and “A New Era Begins,” there’s no doubt it’s referring to its new AR/VR headset that’s been rumored for years. And while we know what’s to come this time, it’s still a monumental event.
Apple’s headphone launch may seem like chance or foregone conclusion, but watching its unveiling today will be one of the pivotal moments in Apple’s history, along with the iPhone, iPod and Macintosh. origin. The iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods are all huge category-defining products for Apple, but they’re not among the big ones. The helmet will.
Although it’s not clear at first, the headset is one of those devices that could fundamentally change Apple’s direction. Like the iPhone and iPod, it will suffer its share of ridicule for its high price and spin-off features, people will complain about its design and point out its shortcomings. But in a year or five, the rest of the world will catch up with Apple’s vision.
Much like the iPhone and iPod, the headphones we see today will be very different from the ones that break through and become the ones everyone wants. But make no mistake, today is as important as January 9, 2007; the only difference is that this time we know it’s coming. There are a lot of unknowns, including the chief device design, but today’s keynote won’t come as a surprise at igamesnews San Francisco 2007. Whatever. It’s still one of the four most exciting announcements in Apple’s history.
Time will tell if the helmet will be as great as the revolutions that came before it, but those arguments are for another day. Today, let’s just enjoy the show.
