We all know that – especially in RPGs – fashion is just as important as the build you wear, and in Diablo 4 it’s no different thanks to Transmog.
Much like other such systems, Diablo 4’s Transmog system allows you to take on the appearance of one item and apply it to another with your desired stats.
In this guide we will explain how to unlock Transmogas well as how to use and save various Transmog looks.

Diablo 4 Transmog System Explained
For the uninitiated, “Transmog” – short for transmogrification – is a feature where you take the appearance of one item and apply it to another, keep the stats and effects of the item you want to equipwhile having its appearance modified to look like what you want.
It’s a feature that allows you to hunt whatever gear you want without worrying about its visual properties since you have full control over your appearance with a separate set of tools.
Diablo 4 combines this feature with its in-game items and store, allowing you to customize your character’s visuals using gear acquired in-game or purchased from the in-game store.
It’s also with this system that you can equip various additional accessories – like the wolf pack you may have acquired if you’ve reached level 20 in the beta or server slam.
How to Unlock Transmog and Cosmetics in Diablo 4
Unlocking this system is quite simple and can be done very quickly after creating a character and jumping into the world of Sanctuary.
You just need complete the game’s opening quests and reach Kyovashadand soon after, you’ll have access to a variety of vendors and features, including the wardrobe that allows you to interact with the Transmog system.
The first step in using Transmog itself is to acquire a piece of equipment that you do not yet own and “collect” it from a blacksmith – if the skin can be used as a transmog skin, it will say “Unlocks new skin on pickup” on the item description.
When you’re at the blacksmith, you can choose to grab gear manually, by rarity, or by marking it as “junk” from your character’s inventory screen and then picking it up – personally, I have ran into an issue where it sometimes wouldn’t work when marking it as junk, so I had to pick up the item manually, which you can do by selecting the pickaxe icon on the left side of the screen, at- above element recovery filters.
Doing so will unlock that gear’s appearance as a transmog option – you’ll get a pop-up in the top left of the screen to confirm that as well.
As shown in the image above, you will also get various materials that can be used in crafting and upgrading equipment when collecting items.
How to Save and Change Your Transmog Appearance in Diablo 4
Once you’ve collected the gear pieces you want, head to a Wardrobe to redeem your newly unlocked visual skins.
All of the appearance options you’ve unlocked per gear slot will be displayed here, and it’s here that you can also customize your character’s makeup, jewelry, markings, and tombstone using the tabs located at the top in the images below.
When you select a new appearance here, you will also be able to select different colors and dyes to apply, allowing you to further refine your appearance to your liking.
As a bonus, even after applying a Transmog option to an equipped piece of gear, you can disable it at any time with an option visible when hovering over the associated gear icon in the character screen, allowing you to back and forth between the item’s original look and your custom look at any time.
You can also save custom looks with the ‘Together’ menu seen in the upper right of the Wardrobe tab – purchasing additional slots requires gold with an escalating cost up to 20,000, but overall a relatively cheap investment for fashion lovers!
If you happen to need extra gold to acquire the extra transmog set slots, our guides on the fame system and world tiers can help, by boosting your acquisition via difficulty or achievement. of activities.
