After Blizzard removed the auction house from Diablo 3 and adjusted the in-game drop rate, public perception of the game shifted. Unfortunately, the famous ARPG never got the post-launch content it deserved.
That’s something Blizzard hopes to rectify with Diablo 4, and the studio has plans for a new season, as well as more traditional content expansions.
In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson confirmed that the studio is already working on two expansion packs for Diablo 4 instead of one. Of course, in addition to the seasonal content, there is also new content for Diablo.
“We had to build things in parallel,” Ferguson explained. “We’re coming out with the main game, we’re finishing season one, we’re working on season two, we’re working on expansion one, we’re launching expansion two — all of that is happening.”
This is the first time Blizzard has talked about post-launch content for Diablo 4 other than the season pass. The developer says it expects the first season to launch sometime in July, and each season will last about a quarter of a year, giving casual players a chance to catch up.
However, the type of content included in each season remains the biggest mystery. Nonetheless, Ferguson revealed that each season will bring new narrative content that drives the story forward and introduces players to the new mechanics of the season.
Blizzard has taken full advantage of Diablo 4’s streaming service so far. While the game’s store is live, and the prices are as staggering as you’d expect from a free-to-play game, the developers have been quick to roll out two patches, as well as server-side fixes.
If this is the cadence we should expect from developers, then it bodes well for the future of gaming. The very top link will take you to our many Diablo 4 guides, such as how to get the mount, where to find all the Lilith altars, these important gameplay tips, and more.
