How to Record PC Screen Without Having a Capture Device

Microsoft has a habit of adding solutions created for its console to its operating system and vice versa. Some are useless, but some are quite interesting. In this case, it is a very interesting function, especially if you are a fan of video games.

We are going to focus on how to record the screen through the Xbox Game Bar, something very simple. Said function, it should be noted that it is designed for games, but which allows saving the browser or just the desktop.

To start using the Xbox Game Bar, we must:

1. To write Xbox Game Bar in Windows Finder or simultaneously press the keys Windows + G of our keyboard
2. A bar with different options will appear at the top of our screen
3. Let’s go to the option Setting which is the gear-shaped icon that we will see further to the right
4. Among the options in the left column, we will go to the option of capture
5. We select the option record in background while i play. What this allows is to make a recording of the game or the desktop without having the top bar always visible
6. Without leaving here, we go to the option of sound to record. We select to record the sound of the game plus the microphone, that of the game, microphone, applications and system or none, as we wish
7. we close the Setting and now we have to click on the capture icon. It is a square with a base and a circle in the center, representing a webcam. It’s usually quite left of the bar
8. A window opens and there you have to click on start recording which is a white circle within a larger circle. You can also use the keyboard shortcut: Windows + Alt + R
9. Once the recording starts, four of them will appear on the right. capture status where it tells us how long we recorded the screen
10. When you want to finish, just click on Stop which is a small white square next to the recording time
11. All records can be viewed on See my captures which can be opened from the widget or we can go to the folder videos

Customize shortcuts

Something that this Widget also allows us is the customization of quick accesses. By default, they are based on the Windows key on our keyboard and the combination with other keys. If you want to change it, it lets you, with a simple rule.

Always launch the quick access configuration with one of these three keys on our keyboard: Alt / Ctrl (control) / Shift (upper case). Immediately afterwards we can put the key or keys of our keyboard that we want.

We need to follow the following steps to do this:

1. Open the Xbox Game Bar by combining Win + G
2. Let’s go to Setting (rightmost gear of the bar)
3. Click on Shortcuts which is in the left column
4. Here we can customize shortcuts for these functions:
   • Open Xbox Game Bar
   • Take a screenshot
   • Save the last 30 seconds
   • start/stop recording
   • Mute/unmute microphone
