Fae Farm is like Stardew Valley but with an RPG on top

I’m sitting down to my Summer Game Fest fairy farm Hands-on, just expected something different Stardew Valley clone, another cozy game This will temporarily attract the attention of Disney adults and children. But within minutes I realize I’m dead wrong. Secure, fairy farm There are crops to grow, cute little NPCs to love, and a home to decorate – everything you could ask for. But there’s more going on under the hood.

My hands-on demo of Fae Farm

For one, there are dungeons full of resources you need to craft the myriad of items necessary to grow and upgrade your home, your pets’ pens, your potion stations, and your crops. You can go into these dungeons, weapon wielding, and keep knocking down the baddies until they give you their resources, or you can learn spells to cast on them, or you can brew a potion that turns you invisible and sneak past leaves to find them treasures that lie behind them.

Your house has a comfort system that boosts your strength, stamina, and mana, all of which you must explore fairy farm‘s world. There are seasons and dynamic weather systems that can negatively impact your endurance or strength, but you can counteract them by brewing a special tea to keep you warm or cool in more extreme temperatures.

fairy farm also allows you to keep animals, gathering resources from them while building a bond between them. And the dozen or so NPCs in the world will show you how to expand your skills, whether it’s building things that let you cook more complicated foods or learning spells that let you use all of your crops at once water them or send them on quests that will bring you money and lots of goodies.

If I ask Phoenix Labs PR manager Andy Burt how he would describe it fairy farmSince so many people assume it’s just a farming sim, he tells me that it’s the magical elements that make this game so special, and the fact that there are so many different approaches to the game that will define your experience. If you want to mine your way through dungeons, that’s possible, but if you want to play it as a farming sim for 300 hours, that’s also possible.

Add a nice character customization system that includes “they/them” pronouns, different body types and skin tones, and cute magic elements fairy farm is my big Summer Game Fest surprise so far.

Fae farm is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC later this year.
