iOS 17 interactive widgets

It’s been a week since Apple’s presentation at WWDC where we discovered the new features that iOS 17 will bring. One of them, without a doubt, has been one of the most requested by users for several years: interactive widgets. But without confusing them with dynamics. We already had them. And that’s all we can do with them (for now).

iOS 14 introduced widgets for the first time. In them, information was displayed (even dynamically, as we mentioned. For example, the weather widget changed the background depending on the current weather of the city we chose) and nothing another for each of the applications that had them. Besides, interaction with them does not go beyond clicking on them or on a part of them to open one or another functionality, but within the application itself.

With iOS 17 this has changed and We have been testing interactive widgets for a week with the apps that allow us to do so (for now, limited, of course). As you can see in the main image of the post, the Music app or Apple Podcast allows us to press play, resume or pause playback we have (the bigger the widget, the more visible and manageable titles we have). On the other hand, the reminders application allows us mark as Done those we have in the list chosen to be displayed in the widget. Very functional because it saves time without having to enter the application to manage them.

But this functionality does not stop there. iPadOS also integrates interactive widgets And it’s only a matter of time before third parties include new features in their widgets in their apps. Activate or deactivate the home surveillance camera, increase or decrease the temperature of a room, start a personalized workout with an app, record the glass of water we drank… The sky is the limit.

My only critical point in this regard is… How will this affect the prominence of the dynamic island? What sense will it make to manage music or the like if we also have it on the home screen? Only be able to do it from another application? We will see.
