Mega Sceptile is the Mega Evolved form of Sceptile, and one of the best Grass-type Mega Pokémon in Pokemon Go.
It’s a fan favorite thanks to the fact that it’s the latest evolution of starter Hoenn Treecko. Along with Mega Swampert and Mega Blaziken, these three beloved Pokémon provide extremely powerful options in Pokémon Go.
Like all Mega Evolutions, Mega Sceptile cannot be caught directly in Pokémon Go. Instead, you must keep defeating it in Mega Raids until you have collected enough Mega Sceptile Energy for its temporary evolution. . Thanks to the rebalancing of the Summer 2022 Mega Raid, this can now be done in a single Mega Raid if you beat it fast enough!
Below you will find Cons and Weaknesses of Mega Sceptile to help you succeed in Pokémon Go – remember that you must have a Sceptile in your Pokémon storage to perform its Mega Evolution.

Mega Sceptile counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go
The fastest way to collect Mega Sceptile Energy is to defeat one in a Mega Raid. Below are Mega Sceptile’s counters and weaknesses to help you achieve this:
- Mega-sceptile types – Grass and Dragon
- Mega Sceptile is weak against – Ice (2x), Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying and Poison
- Mega Sceptile is resistant to – Land (2x), Electric, Grass and Water
- Mega Sceptile Mega Pawns – Mega Glalie or Mega Abomasnow with dual Ice-type attacks will be the stronger choice here, given Mega Sceptile’s dual weakness to Ice. But, failing that, Mega Salamence will offer huge damage; just know that it’s as weak as Mega Sceptile if it performs Dragon-type attacks!
- Non-Mega Mega Sceptile Counters – Ice is by far the most important thing here because the damage boost when you see the words “double weak” is real. Mamoswine or Galarian Darmanitan with double glaze is the way to go. Kyurem with Dragon Breath and Glaciate is your best Legendary option, though Mewtwo with Ice Beam is decent. Still, Glaceon and Weavile with double-Ice outplay Mewtwo, showing how powerful exploiting a double weakness is.
- Number of players to beat Mega Sceptile – Mega Sceptile can theoretically be beaten by a single player if you have a team of high-level Ice-type attackers. However, it’s a lofty goal for most players. As with most Mega Pokemon, three players at level 40 is perfectly reasonable, and five players at level 30 should be enough, as long as you bring the right Pokemon into battle!
- Tactical “Ice cream, ice cream, baby! Exploiting this double Ice weakness will have Mega Sceptile bend in no time. Bring a powerful Mega to power up your friends’ Pokemon in the raid and you shouldn’t have too much trouble taking down that Pokemon.

Everything we know about Sceptile
The Forest Pokémon Sceptile is one of the Hoenn Grass-type starter Pokémon of Generation 3. By acquiring the Dragon-type, it joins its compatriots Mega Sceptile and Mega Blaziken in being a dual-type Pokémon.
This fan favorite is clearly inspired by geckos. You can read the official Pokédex entries for these Pokémon below:
- Treecko: ‘Treecko has small hooks under his feet that allow him to climb vertical walls. This Pokémon attacks by hitting enemies with its thick tail.‘
- Grovyle: ‘The leaves that grow on Grovyle’s body are handy for camouflaging him from enemies in the forest. This Pokémon is a master at climbing trees in the jungle.‘
- skeptical: ‘The leaves that grow on Sceptile’s body are very sharp. This Pokémon is very agile: it jumps over the branches of trees and jumps on its enemy from above or from behind.‘
For those looking for a shiny, you will be delighted to learn that the shiny Treecko, Grovyle and Sceptile were released during the Treecko Community Day in March 2019. As a result, Mega Sceptile is also in the game!
Shiny Treecko swaps its lime green for a light teal color. His darker green tail turns red instead. Its evolution, Grovyle, goes from a darker forest green to a mint green, while Sceptile completely changes course and opts for an aqua color! While that makes him look like a Water-type, he looks awesome, so no one is really complaining. This coloring is kept with shiny Mega Sceptile, which makes us incredibly happy.
Good luck defeating Mega Sceptile in Pokémon Go!
