On June 22nd, Final Fantasy XVI will be the next big blockbuster of the year, and it doesn’t come without a Day 1 patch either. That’s reassuring given the demo.
The release of Final Fantasy XVI on June 22 is eagerly awaited. Square Enix had to backtrack on one aspect of the game. The original plan was to ship the game without a Day 1 patch, but Square Enix has now changed that mind and confirmed that there will be an update at launch after all.
However, the patch is comparatively small and should only contain 300 MB. The update is primarily intended to optimize performance in some areas, which is reassuring in view of the demo, which was not always able to keep the 60 fps stable in performance mode. The developers have already pointed out that the demo should not be taken as a benchmark for the final game.
It also fixes an issue that could block game progress. The same applies to another bug that, under certain circumstances, allows the game to close unexpectedly. Some minor text problems should also be fixed with the update. The Day 1 patch is set to be available as early as June 20th, much to the delight of players who have already snagged a physical version that leaked a little early.
Incidentally, Square Enix also commented on this and asked the players not to spoil the game in advance. Hate action will be taken against this and all content – whether images, videos or streams – that is published before the release will be removed from the network.
“For those who received a pre-release copy, we ask that they not share any aspect of the game, including screenshots, videos and live streams, until Final Fantasy 16 has been released,” Square Enix writes. “Our priority is to ensure that our fans are not spoiled for the full gaming experience and in order to achieve that we will remove any image, video or stream published prior to launch day.”
