A retinue of the Stormcast Eternals’ hammer-wielding Liberators sets out across the battlefield with one goal: to capture a victory point that will decide the outcome of the battle. To do so, they must fend off hordes of Gutrippaz, the vicious and cunning infantry of the vicious Orruk Kruleboyz – not to mention navigate difficult terrain that slows their movement and leaves them vulnerable.
As the Stormcast Eternals gather resources, their forces grow more powerful. However, their stronger units, like the Wyrmflame Stormdrake Guard and the winged Prosecutors, soon join the fray to take control of the battle – but at the same time, the Kruleboyz unleash hordes of enemies and large monsters like the massive Mirebrute Troggoth gather, to wipe out these champions of order.
It won’t be an easy fight. But it will be a lot of fun to watch.
That’s what it’s like to play a multiplayer match Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, a major real-time strategy game based on the Games Workshop® fantasy universe and developed by Frontier Developments, coming soon to Xbox Series X|S. Presenting a modern take on a beloved genre, you’ll enjoy a narrative campaign told from multiple perspectives, then plunge into online mode where you choose one of four distinctive factions in competitive 1v1 and 2v2 cross-platform multiplayer modes ( although you can also play against the AI if you wish). Each faction plays differently, and combat changes drastically as players unlock each stage of the tech tree and new fighters enter the field.
realms of decay presents gamers with a modern take on RTS gaming, offering a fast-paced and immersive multiplayer experience for both genre newcomers and seasoned veterans alike. Designed for PC and consoles alike, our goal from the start has been to ensure players can enjoy a comfortable yet flexible real-time strategy interface on Xbox.
That’s why we created DirectStep™ for your Xbox controller that does just that. In realms of decay, you can issue orders to selected squads using a header display. By pushing the left joystick in the desired direction and pressing the X button, you can use the directional indicator to quickly piece together a chain of movement commands and send your squads across the battlefield in your chosen direction. The length of the heading indicator – and thus how far the squad moves from a single order – is affected by the zoom level of the camera, allowing precise orders to be given when the camera is dragged directly into view. You can also toggle Direct and Attack movement commands, with the latter ordering your troops to attack any enemies they encounter along the way.
The right stick allows for full 360-degree camera control, giving you complete command of the battlefield view – meaning you have the ability to commandeer the game’s authentic, true-to-life and beautifully animated Age of Sigmar units to enjoy up close. Or if you’d rather zoom out for a classic RTS perspective, we’ll put that choice in your hands.
realms of decayOn the Xbox, too, the controller interface allows for much more than just simple movement commands. Elsewhere on the battlefield, if you want to select a different squad, all you have to do is tilt the left analog stick towards the desired target and tap the A button. This puts control of this squad in your hands instantly, and lets you hop around the map to control the tide of conflict on multiple fronts at your leisure. If you prefer more traditional RTS movement commands, you can switch to crosshair mode by pressing the left stick. This separates the camera from selected squads and allows for free camera movement that can be used to plot individual commands at longer ranges. You can even hotkey groups of units using the d-pad, giving you even more direct control over your armies.
Ultimately, the aim of DirectStep™ is to provide fast input and smooth gameplay for gamers of all skill levels – whether they are familiar with the tradition of RTS games on Xbox or are completely new and want to enter a new world for the first time times scrap.
Players can try DirectStep for themselves from July 7th to 9th Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin The open beta is coming to Xbox.
