There was a time when Microsoft communicated via virtual reality to demonstrate the power of its consoles. Everyone remembers that when the Xbox One X took the spotlight, virtual reality was clearly mentioned. But that was before the Redmond-based company realized that VR headsets had major problems integrating into homes. In an interview with Hollywood reporterMatt Booty, head of Xbox First Party Studios, insisted VR games don’t have a place in the Series X|S yet because the VR/AR market is too small.
I think for us it’s just about waiting for an audience. We’re fortunate to have great intellectual properties that have grown into franchises with great communities. We have 10 games so far that have surpassed 10 million players, which is a great achievement. That’s the scale we need to make a game successful, and that’s not yet the case with augmented reality and virtual reality. Matt Booty, Patron of Xbox Studio
not big enough
Although Sony assured that the PSVR 2 sold better than the first model, and despite the 20 million oculus headsets sold, What is certain is that virtual reality is only too hesitant to acquire market share so some video game giants can get started. Whether it’s 2019, 2020, or 2021, Phil Spencer, head of gaming at Microsoft, explained that demand for VR just wasn’t enough. Officially, therefore, the American manufacturer is not interested in virtual reality, but does not close doors to the future.
