A few months before the release of Dune 2, The Last of Us series showrunner Craig Mazin announced that he was collaborating on the project.

The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin also contributed to the writing of Dune Part 2. He explained this during an appearance on the podcast Happy, sad, confusedthat today he no longer works in the cinema, but that he “would still work with some directors if they call him. (…) I’m there for three to four weeks or a month to work on what they’re working on“. The screenwriter admitted to making his own projects his priority, but continues to help with certain feature films such as Denis Villeneuve’s: “I’m a participating author of Dune: Part 2”. Craig Mazin receives an “Additional Literary Material” (ALM) credit for this. It was established in 2022 to ensure that writers who have completed writing services covered by the Writers Guild of America (a union representing film writers) receive recognition for their contributions. However, the showrunner did not provide any information about the nature of his involvement in the next science fiction film.

A highly anticipated film

Dune: Part 2 is the direct sequel to the first part released in 2021. The film will continue to follow the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). He allies with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen people as he sets out to exact revenge on the conspirators who destroyed his family. Dune is inspired by Franck Herbert’s 1965 book of the same name. It was a success upon release, unlike its first adaptation in 1984, which received mixed reviews. But when Denis Villeneuve’s first work came out, The project was very well received, notably receiving a score of 4.3/5 on Allociné and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Dune: Part 2 is therefore also eagerly awaited by the fans and will be released in cinemas on November 1, 2023 after the completion of production in December and a postponement.
