Build the perfect deck from a selection of cards unique to each character and use them to crush your enemies and achieve your personal goals. From mastering devastating attacks to honing your tactical skills, there are many, many ways to approach our game.

We’ve been hard at work developing this gritty world for Xbox, and we’re excited to share some of those details with you here. As avid gamers of the board game (both physical and digital PC versions) it is truly an honor and pleasure to work on this project. Our goal is to capture the essentials Gloomhaven and deliver a flawless gaming experience on Xbox.

GloomhavenThe subtleties present a unique challenge when it comes to controller customization. Our team worked on an overhauled UI/UX to ensure seamless gameplay and intuitive controls, making the transition from board game to PC game to Xbox game an effortless and enjoyable experience. We’re casting some serious convenience spells here!

And it was quite a challenge. Gloomhaven There are many things to click on PC and we wanted to provide the smoothest possible experience. Rest assured that you don’t need to laboriously move the cursor with the joystick to mimic a mouse – we’ve done a complete remapping of the controls. Some of our early releases required far too many fingers and buttons to press for a normal human, but we’re not harrowers! Probably.

Let’s talk a little more about the controls!

Bring Gloomhaven on Xbox was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. The thing is, board games don’t have a limited number of buttons. There’s also no online cross-platform co-op – so you can imagine the challenge.

We wanted the controls to be as intuitive as possible, so we went with the analog sticks to control all camera movements. Navigating through lists is also quite natural with a stick, so we built the game so the player moves through the interface using the left stick. Sometimes, like in the trader screen, two lists overlapped. After several UX iterations, we split the focus to lists to allow the player to choose which part of the UI they want to operate. To make these screens compatible with Xbox as well, we redesigned the UI a bit by combining buy/sell filters when talking to the retailer.

In battles, we played around with the camera the most. While the enemies or allies on PC were taking their turn, your camera focus was diverted away from you while the unit’s animation played, but you had the mouse to hover over various elements and plan your strategy. On the console, switching between camera controls and lists can be frustrating. We separated these automatic controls from the camera to give the player more viewing flexibility.

Another challenge was combining selection and confirmation with pressing and holding the A button. We needed to make the overlap of these elements as smooth as possible. We encountered several problems, e.g. B. when you select opponents on the field to attack, but you are currently focused on the second enemy. In the console version, you can either select them or attack only the first selected target. All in all the team did a good job to make it as enjoyable as possible. No enemy is left untouched, no card is not chosen.

Get ready for an extraordinary journey full of mysteries, dangers and epic encounters. With Gloomhaven On Xbox you have the power to shape your destiny and carve your own path in this immersive fantasy realm. You can pre-order the game on Xbox ahead of its September 18 release!
