Bethesda is known to be working on a new Indiana Jones video game, but which platforms is the promising new installment coming to? The litigation between FTC and Microsoft now brings to light the supported platforms!
The FTC wants to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard and consequently there is currently a legal battle between the parties involved. This in turn promotes all sorts of interesting information in documents, including the new Indiana Jones video game.
It was obvious that the new Indiana Jones could only be released for the Xbox, after all Bethesda already belongs to Microsoft. However, insider Jez Corden gave hope some time ago that this is a multiplatform title that is not exclusive to the Microsoft console.
As it turns out, Corden wasn’t all that wrong, as the new title developed by Machine Games was actually originally given a multiplatform deal by Disney. As a result, the PlayStation would have benefited from the new Indiana Jones – but after Microsoft acquired Bethesda, this agreement was amended.
As a result, Indiana Jones will no longer be released for the PlayStation, but at least for the PC as well as the Xbox. This was confirmed by Bethesda’s Pete Hines in testimony in the FTC litigation. When asked about the rationale behind this platform change, Hines also cited “the reduction of risk and trying to get some level of security” by bringing the game to Xbox Game Pass.
The surprise should be quite small in view of the first Bethesda titles after the Microsoft deal, after all Redfall has already been released for Xbox and PC, as well as the approaching Starfield. The FTC consequently argues that Microsoft could act in a similar way after buying Activision Blizzard and thus damage the competition in the long term.
Further concrete details about Indiana Jones as well as a release date are still pending for the title planned for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
