Voice assistants are increasingly used in more homes in Europe, Google and Amazon, Alexa, which is generally even more popular than the former. Having a speaker in the kitchen to keep the shopping list up to date, turning on the lights in the room, or playing music in the room you w ant are some of the most common actions, but assistants go a long way more.
Recently One of the Amazon devices to have Alexa in our vehicle has been analyzed in El ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre, the Amaz on Echo Auto, a device that allowed you to perform certain actions hands-free, such as consulting, listening to music, etc. As you can see, Amazon wants its assistant in as many devices as possible, and watches are no exception.
The TicWatch 5 Pro also passed through the review board, a watch that offers class-leading battery life for a device with Wear OS but did not include google assistant, something that is limited in the latest version of the operating system to the Pixel Watch and Samsung models. But what it is possible to do on this watch, in addition to others from other brands, is to install Alexa.
How to install Alexa on the watch
Amazon wants to facilitate the transport of its assistant and authorizes its installation from the Google Play Store. Just click on the link and install it from your computer, or search in the watch store and install it from there. In both cases we will have the application configured.
When the installation is complete we will need to give you the necessary permissions, such as access to the microphone so that we can talk to the clock, or to the contacts, in case we want to make a voice call directly without having to write the numbers. We will also be asked if we want to assign a physical button to activate the assistant
In the case of the TicWatch 5 Pro double tap on home button was automatically reassigned to Alexa, something that is appreciated because as said in the review, the buttons do not allow changing their settings, at least not natively without installing third-party applications. We can also put Alexa on the system interface cards, in the position we want, in case we do not want to assign a button to activate the assistant.
The operation is really good, although it may take a while to respond to the button press at some point. In this case, it is better to restart the clock, although you already know that voice assistants don’t work as well on smartwatches as they do on smart speakers or on the phones.
