A Change.org petition calls for Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield to be a PS5 exclusive. With over 1000 signatures, this must be a joke, right? Does anyone think this is actually possible? As the new flames of Console War II flicker online, does anyone really believe it’s possible?
Starfield debuted in 2018 and has since been a permanent fixture on many gamers’ hype lists. However, with Bethesda firmly on the Microsoft team for a while, the upcoming AAA space blockbuster will be released exclusively on Xbox consoles and PC. PlayStation fans are in for a cold, starless winter.
The petition, titled “Make Starfield a PS5 Exclusive!!!” has 1,037 signatures as of this writing. Whether this is a real petition or just a hilarious joke at the expense of PS5 fans with hilariously unrealistic expectations is uncertain, but for entertainment value alone it’s still worth checking out. read.
It was introduced to the world by a brave PlayStation warrior, Benjamin Dickey, who opened it with the following:
“Bethesda games have been released on the PlayStation for over a decade. They perform better, run better, and sell better on the PlayStation. Xbox, and especially Phil Spencer, has no right to put them Take away.” First, you have to hand it to Dickie, because this short and sweet opening argument is just pure passion. He was there to win.
It’s worth noting that he was wrong. The performance of Xbox Series X is stronger than that of PS5. The reason the PS5 is currently outselling the Xbox Series X in the UK and elsewhere is because the console has better exclusivity, at least in the general market.
To be fair, that’s not really the battle Xbox is in – its goal this generation has been very clear, to get you to subscribe to Game Pass instead of paying £70 for every hot new game. Every console has its merits, make love not war, man! As for Bethesda games selling better on PlayStation, there’s no real data to back that up either. Overall, though, consoles do seem to outsell PCs, interesting right?
Back to this petition: the remaining 580 words to continue the current trend of fighting every memeable console war point. Again, you should read it yourself, but I must highlight some of the choice quotes “Secondly, the Xbox and its 12 dedicated players are not worthy of Starfield or any exclusivity. Not only are they arrogant and annoying, but they’ve been annoying since they were shown ,” the final note reads, “I don’t need trolls to come here and complain that we actually care about games, I don’t care how many of you come and insult me. Crying, coping, seething, crazy Xbots!” Outstanding.
As you can imagine, the petition drew mixed reactions. “I signed because I wanted to leave a comment to tell you that you are poor and need a life!” wrote Penelope K, who is apparently already in the Xbox camp and is set to hit the stage of stardom with Todd in a few months. In fact, it looks like a lot of people signed just for the chance to dunk directly on Dickey.
“I really want you to know that this is the dumbest argument I’ve ever seen! You’re fucking delusional you really think it’s going to work. Fucking idiot,” James Davis said of the Renaissance painter Eloquent strokes write. They were joined by James’ colleague, who had just popped over to tell Benjamin: “I promise you’re one of those idiots who love how xbox got knocked out by PS and now you feel like your shoe is on the other foot. Damn poor guy! “
If Benjamin is spoofing, well done man, you did a great job here. If he’s serious, it’s a perfect example of the rejuvenated console wars that seem to have been going on for months. Trust us – we see it in Twitter all the time! Something about the current generation of consoles gets people excited, calling out fiery new soldiers willing to sacrifice their online lives for the cause, as well as old veterans whose wars never really ended.
If you’re a PlayStation player, don’t feel too bad. Without Starfield, you’d have over 100GB to play some other cool games. September is full this year – I’m sure Armored Core 6 will keep you warm at night.
Do you think this petition is real or just a great joke? And, while we’re still here, what the hell! Which is better, PS5 or Xbox Series X? I want all of you who keep calling us Microsoft and Sony toddlers (sometimes at the same time) to list your arguments below. go wild!
