Shirley: Production

The film is produced by Participant and Regina King’s Royal Ties Productions, and commissioned by Netflix by Anikah McLaren, Elizabeth Haggard, Regina King, Reina King and John Ridley. John Ridley (“12 Years a Slave”, “American Crime”) wrote and directed the film.

Filming began in 2021, so a first release in 2022 was assumed. However, due to various circumstances, such as the corona pandemic and reshoots, the start had to be postponed to 2023.
