Ten years ago I went to my first New York Comic Con all right Doctor Who Cosplay (Tenth Doctor of course). My outfit was more of a collection of H&M pieces and a pair of Converse I already owned than a tailored look I made in my parents’ garage, but to put on an outfit like that and attend a convention was one the nerdiest moments of my life.

Choosing to cosplay is a big step into the abyss of nerd fandom. But what you choose to cosplay and how you implement it says a lot about you. Ten years ago, my cosplay said a few things: I was new to it Doctor Who And I was obsessed with wearing smart shorts (they were around in the 2010s) and couldn’t sew or make anything myself. The man is now wearing a gigantic one silent Hill Pyramid Head’s boss was clearly a personal trainer, the person in The last of us Clicker Garb was an aspiring FX makeup artist and the guy in it The dark knight Joker Makeup was definitely the same person who called me names on voice chat Halo 4

Cosplay culture is diverse and fascinating, and the more you delve into it, the more you realize that it acts like a kind of funhouse mirror for the people who participate. Your cosplay isn’t your astrological chart, but it might as well be.

That’s probably what your cosplay says about you. Remember, this is all for fun folks.
