The Soul Fighter event has been announced across multiple Riot Games titles, starting July 20, bringing fighting game-themed decorations and in-game content to the world of Runeterra.
That means if you’re a League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, or Legends of Runeterra player, you’ll be able to earn yourself some limited-time rewards during tough times in the Riot Games calendar . It will also be released alongside some more general additions, such as new champions and balance patches.
League of Legends is about to usher in a new game mode: Arena. The game features four teams of two players each battling on a small map, allowing for super-short, combat-focused matches that fit with the fighting game theme. This is League of Legends’ first new game mode in years, and it’s a big deal for those tired of classic 5v5 matches.
As far as new cosmetics in the league go, you have the following:
- Soul Fighter Samira (Ultimate Skin)
- Soul Fighter Viego (Legendary Skin)
- Soul Fighter Nafiri
- Soul Fighter Shaco
- soul fighter pike
- Soul Fighter Seth
- Soul Fighter Lux
- Soul Fighter Jhin
- soul fighter gwen
- Soul Fighter Evelyn
- Prestige Soul Fighter Shaco
- Prestige Soul Fighter Pike
There’s also an in-game event for the Tournament of Souls, a combo battle you can participate in by playing a League of Legends game. Through it, you can defeat countless enemies and earn yourself some cool prizes. Plus, there’s a battle pass that lets you progress as well.
What about other games? Teamfight Tactics has its own unique new game mode, as well as a new look and narrative experience. Wild Rift is also getting a new game mode in the form of Tag Duel, while Legends of Runeterra is getting a bunch of card skins, a battle pass, and some new emotes and card backs.
“We’re really excited about the variety of different experiences within the League of Legends ecosystem that make up the Soul Fighter campaign,” said Andrei van Roon, Head of League Studios. “Arena, Soul Brawl and tag duels will allow players to experience League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift each bringing something really new in new ways that we think. We can’t wait to see what players think when they get their hands on it.
The interesting aspect of this reveal has to do with the elephant in the room: Project L. As a fighting game-inspired event, a lot of people saw the beautiful new trailer for Soul Fighter and had an “oh crap, Project L stuff” moment! That’s not the case, but it does seem to coincidentally take place at Evo 2023. Evo is the biggest fighting game event of the year, usually accompanied by Project L reveals and news. As such, many are anticipating a special announcement from the show.
