Console manufacturers have been struggling with inventory shortages since the pandemic, and what made the situation even worse at the time were scalpers buying up whatever was in stock and reselling it online at much higher prices.
The Switch was also a victim of this, and now Nintendo wants to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself with its “next-gen machine.” In the same shareholder Q&A, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged past shortage situations around the world.
The plan moving forward with the “new hardware” chains is simply to “produce and deliver quantities that can meet customer demand.” In other words, Nintendo aims to have enough inventory even before sending new systems out into the wild, so that there is enough supply to meet the demand of the entire market.
Furukawa added that Nintendo would then consider “whether there are any other possible measures” it could take in addition to increasing inventory.
Nintendo has had similar problems with its collector’s editions and accessories. The situation seems to have improved a little over time, in selected regions. Yesterday, collector’s editions Tears of the kingdom it also got a restock, and before that there was a restock for amiibo.
