The handheld console market is on fire. The arrival of new, more powerful chips has greatly facilitated the arrival of new devices, like the Asus ROG Ally, which can compete with gaming laptops despite their much smaller size.
The key is in the new AMD processors, which are more efficient and powerful without taking up more physical space on the motherboard; something ideal for a portable device, in which the available space is usually very limited. In this context, the launch of the new GPD Win 4 must be understood.
In fact, that same year, a very similar model of the GPD Win 4 was already released, but this version was still based on the latest generation of AMD Ryzen processors; The change is so big that GPD decided to relaunch the console with the new chips so as not to be outdone in terms of power.
New GPD Win 4
Therefore, the big difference of the new GPD Win 4 compared to the current model lies in the processor, but also in the options available; If previously only one processor was used, now it is possible to choose between two different ones depending on the amount we want to pay or the performance we are looking for. Specifically, the options are the Ryzen 5 7640U (6 cores/12 threads @ 4.9GHz) and the Ryzen 7 7840U (8 cores/16 threads @ 5.1GHz), which were recently introduced by AMD. Additionally, each processor comes with a new integrated GPU, which will be the part that really you will get better gaming performance
Memory is another aspect that has been improved, since the jump is made to LPDDR5x-7500 faster than the previous one, which was LPDDR5-6400. In addition, it is now possible to choose up to 64 GB, although the 32 and 16 GB options remain. A storage option is also offered. higher capacity, 4 TB
For the rest, there are few differences in the console itself, which retains the same design that is strongly reminiscent of Sony’s PSP, from the format to the buttons. The great detail that makes the difference is that the screen can be raised, revealing a full keyboard that can be very useful. And it is that this console continues to use Windows 11, although there is the possibility of using SteamOS, the Steam Deck system.
The price of the new GPD Win 4 has not yet been made public; current model starts at $800, so we expect something similar and competitive compared to the ROG Ally which costs 799 dollars. The launch will take place next August.
