A recent blog post on the official Football Manager 2024 website described Football Manager 2024 as “the last game of its kind”. Titled The Future of Football Manager, the series has announced several huge changes and updates that players will start seeing for themselves with next year’s launch.
The article begins with a deep dive into Football Manager 2024, noting that the game will feature tons of improvements, bug fixes, and known issues from previous versions. The blog post also revealed that you will be able to transfer save data from one version of Football Manager to the next. This means that if you do attach a file in Football Manager 23, you can carry it over to the next game. The same goes for Football Manager 25, though the game has changed dramatically from earlier iterations, which we’ll get to later.
Football Manager 2024 is also headed to Game Pass, following the massive success of Football Manager 2023 on the service, which appears to have played a big part in making the game the most popular title in the franchise’s history.
Enter Football Manager 2025! The game is clearly “the next revolution in Football Manager”, with the blog post comparing it to the addition of the 3D engine to the Football Manager 09 series. Football Manager 2025 will be the first in the series to come to a new engine: Unity. This blog post describes how a small team at the studio, whose goal was to tackle the series’ technological future (called Project Dragonfly), came to the conclusion that Unity was the best engine to use in the series’ “new era” .
The series will also incorporate new animation techniques. While players will start to see the fruits of the animation overhaul with ball physics and player movement in Football Manager 2024, Football Manager 2025 will feature a host of animation improvements such as graphical updates to models, stadiums, and surroundings.
Women’s soccer is also coming to Football Manager! While originally slated to be added in 2021, the feature has been silent since then. However, this blog post ultimately brings us signs of life in women’s soccer’s many teams. There will be another blog post digging into it soon, but in short, it’s coming soon.
