It is still in the stars when we can expect the new The Sims part. However, a job advertisement is now causing an uproar in the community. Because if we read them correctly, The Sims 5 could become free-to-play.
It’s no secret that The Sims 5 will have a heavy online component. According to the developers of Maxis, however, it should not be an MMO. As can now be seen from a job advertisement, the new part of the life simulation could be a free-to-play.

How did the community come up with this idea? We are looking for a Head of Monetization & Marketplace. That alone just means the developers are thinking about a marketplace and microtransactions. But the description of the place provides details that allow us to look deeper.
There it says that the employee you are looking for has to take care of the marketplace for Project Rene (the project name of the new The Sims) – both paid and free. Furthermore, one should maximize the value of the players, reduce the fluctuation and optimize the buying behavior. In other words, the players should stay on the ball for as long as possible and of course spend a lot of money.
The second point of the job posting is even clearer. It states that the new employee will be responsible for pricing all content in this “free-to-enter game”. The price and infrastructure should be ideally expanded.
So all indications are that Project Rene will be free-to-play. Of course, it is currently unclear whether the project will really become The Sims 5, because Maxis has not yet confirmed this point.
