game news With more than 55,000 dollars, it is officially the largest robbery in the history of video games
EVE Online, an MMORPG that was released in 2003 and still exists today. In this spatial metaverse, incredible stories were built between players. In JV Legends, we chronicle video games’ greatest betrayal.
In 2003: Beginnings of unlimited broadband access and with it the explosion of MMORPGs. Audiences are turning to games like Ultima Online, EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, and of course the arrival of the juggernaut World of Warcraft. But in all of this, one game stands out: EVE Online. And surprisingly, 20 years later, it still exists.
So this game is about conquering entire sectors of the universe that players fight for years to win.Forging alliances and betrayals, all in battles involving thousands of players, all synchronized by guild strategists and command.
More than a game
The experience of this MMORPG is so dense that there are books that tell the story of EVE Online’s world wars and battles that last for weeks. The title is so unique that for some it is almost a second life that the game offers. In EVE Online you join a company, you have a function, a specific role, a fictional existence and the field of possibilities to develop our role-playing game, our virtual character, is practically unlimited.
We could talk about Charles White, the so-called Pope of Space. A man who, ever since losing loved ones to loneliness and despair, has vowed to always listen to those in need. And many players in the game come to ask him for advice. Every year he appears at the EVE Fanfest dressed as the Pope and drinks from a small coupette with other players he is friends with.
In EVE Online, the relationship is an extremely important part of the experience. Additionally, due to the in-game economy, many players are investing hundreds or even thousands of dollars into their accounts. So as soon as we talk about betrayal, we are talking about large sums of money and a human relationship that has been built up over several years. The relationship we’re interested in here goes back more than five years and involves people from the same corporation, from the same group of players. The group is called CO2 (Circle of Two) and our protagonists are “GIGX”, the leader of the group, and “The Judge”, one of their deputies.
