Summary of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen
The first season adapts the first 62 chapters and the first four story arcs of the manga. The episodes essentially follow the character of Yuji Itadori, who is passionately interested in the occult and unwillingly becomes involved in a paranormal affair. While there is a plague (the name given to the demons of the universe) in his high school, he helps an exorcist, Megumi, stop it. During this quest he must protect a finger belonging to the most powerful scourge in the world: Sukuna. But Yuji picks it up and the demon takes possession of him. Eventually our hero manages to control him and he enters an exorcism school to recover and eat Sukuna’s twenty fingers. Yuji will be in the same class as Megumi and Nobara and will be tutored by one of the best exorcists: Satoru Gojo. Later, a tournament is held with another school, that of Kyoto. Many characters such as Todo, Mai Zenin, and Noritoshi Kamo are introduced in this story arc.
The final three episodes adapt the Instinct Grégaire arc. The trio of Yuji, Megumi and Nobara investigate assassination attempts linked to new plagues. It’s in these episodes that the power of Nobara and Megumi really shines. The young woman can actually use a voodoo technique. Thanks to a doll charged with occult energy and a part of her target’s body, she is able to deflect the blow on her opponent. What’s new, however, is that she was able to use herself as a voodoo doll, proving that the character is more surprising than it seems. As for Megumi, we know from the start that she’s a very strong character. but he achieved an extraordinary feat, namely the expansion of territory, that is, the materialization of the vital space that enables a spell to never miss its target. This is something only powerful exorcists or plagues have been able to do. The season ends with a winning trio defeating the Blights and Yuji managing to swallow another finger from Sukuna.
Summary of the film, important for the sequel
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 adapts the manga of the same name and focuses on an important new character for the sequel: Yuta Okkotsu. The adventure takes place a few years before the first season. After a tragic event, the boy is accompanied by a cursed and extremely powerful spirit. So he goes to the exorcism school in Tokyo where he meets three other students: Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda. While all is going well, a threat looms: Thousands of curses are being placed on Shinjuku and Kyoto to root out non-exorcists. At the end of the animated film, after defeating the threat, Yuta manages to control his power and becomes an S-class Exorcist, the highest level.
A two part Season 2 full of twists and turns
Season 2 consists of 24 episodes divided into two storylines. The first will focus on Gojo’s past and his friendly relationship with Geto, antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. While they are both sent on a mission to rescue a young girl, they are attacked by an exorcist killer named Toji Fushiguro. The second part adapts one of the manga’s longest storylines, that of the drama of Shibuya. We don’t yet know if the entire arc will be animated or not due to its length. It is considered by fans to be one of the best and also one of the saddest. The character Yuta might appear again at the end of this season as he returns after the drama of Shibuya and has an important place in the manga’s continuation. You can discover Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen on July 6th on the Crunchyroll streaming platform.
