Oh great, Diablo 4’s enemies get bigger and scarier in endgame

bigger, Diablo, Endgame, enemies, great, Scarier

Once you’ve completed the Diablo IV campaign and started the post-50 grind, you start running dungeons regularly for rare loot and are rewarded with XP, which earns you Paragon points to get you to level 100.

A Nightmare Dungeon is a variant of an existing dungeon with unique modifiers. Of course, they’re all meant to make things more challenging for the player. Blizzard has recently significantly increased the XP rewards in Nightmare dungeons, so more and more people see it as a viable option for endgame grind.

Avenger is one such modifier that can make things interesting in a different way, past the difficulty peak. Avengers can cause enemies to grow much larger than you’re used to. Over time, this pain makes enemies near other people you’re currently fighting grow stronger — and bigger.

That’s probably why Reddit user IronHeart_777 came across a huge version of the annoying random boss butcher. Their fresh-meat-chasing threat far exceeds that of the standard version, which is more than powerful enough.

So uh… anyone know why we found a giant butcher?he looks so big

Technically, since the Butcher spawns on the player, there shouldn’t be enough time for it to steal your kills from nearby enemies. So the current theory is that the Butcher spawned but didn’t chase the party, which means the Avengers kept feeding it, and the more they fed it, the team continued to kill nearby enemies.

As some comments have pointed out, this seems to be able to happen to any enemy – such as spider hosts, which are a different kind of nightmare. It’s unlikely you’ll see it very often, unless you’re lucky enough to have the unfortunate combo that takes an unusually long time to kill a mob while another is nearby and you haven’t triggered it yet.

In case you missed it, Blizzard is hosting a lengthy Diablo livestream tomorrow (June 6) to reveal the theme and release date for Diablo 4 Season 1. We’re also getting to know most of this big patch.
