Diablo IV has six Uber uniques These are the rarest and some of the most powerful items in the game. Players have spent hundreds of hours never encountering them – until now. A trick was recently discovered to make them easy to earn, and Blizzard has now removed the items from the game entirely to stop the madness.
Uber Uniques, previously only farmable in Nightmare dungeons, have been added to the game’s Helltide event in the latest patch, an in-game event where a specific zone on the map turns blood red and fills with particularly powerful enemies. Players quickly figured out there was a way to significantly increase their chances of getting the Harlequin Crest, better known as Shako, one of, if not the, best. most powerful item in Diablo IV. That’s because characters like Barbarians don’t have many unique helms, meaning Helltide chests that only contain helms are more likely to grant those players shakos instead.
“Just do Helltide and open the helmet chest over and over again and these will fall down like candy,” said YouTuber Raxxanterax a how-to video about the trick. Players rushed to get their shako before Blizzard mitigated the exploit, and that Diablo IV Forums and subreddits immediately started filling up success stories And memes. Players who chose not to log into the game on the night of July 6th kicked themselves in the butt, while others who got shako called Blizzard not to take their scalloped Uber Uniques with them.
It didn’t take long for Blizzard to step in and Remove Uber Uniques, including Shako, are completely out of the game until a hotfix goes live. Of course, there was debate as to whether this was actually an exploit and whether players were just exploiting an apparent game design oversight after the latest patch. Others complained about how quickly Blizzard responded to what seemed a minor issue while the game was still missing other quality of life features.

On the bright side, Uber Uniques like The Grandfather two-handed sword and Ring of the Starless Sky will be easier to earn overall after the hotfix goes into effect, as they will now be included in Helltide activities as well. While players may still not earn them after dozens of hours of farming at the end of the game, they can at least experience a change of pace from their normal Nightmare dungeon runs.
Diablo IVis now the first season of goes live on July 20th. Players will have to start entirely new characters, but will also have access to a whole new set of season-specific abilities and builds. Hopefully by then the most dedicated players in the action role-playing game will manage to earn at least one or two of their most coveted Uber Uniques.
Update 7/7/2023 7:38pm ET:
Troubleshooting
- Fixed an issue where Uber Unique items had an unintentionally higher chance of dropping from Helltide chests.
Developer Note: With the above change, we have re-enabled Uber Unique drops in Diablo IV. Overall, we noticed that between the release of 1.0.4 and the disabling of Uber Unique items on the evening of July 6th, only 142 accounts received an Uber Unique. We have no plans to remove these items from accounts. In the future, we may need to take action to maintain fairness in the game if a bug or exploit affects the gameplay of others.
Gameplay Changes
- Helltide Chests now have the ability to contain unique items and are not tied to specific chest item slot restrictions.
Developer Note: With the above change, players can now find unique items in ALL Helltide chests. There is also a chance that unique Uber items will be found in all chests.
