The iPhone may be the king of high-end smartphones prime, but it is not the only one to consider when renewing the phone. And there is life beyond iOS: there are proposals with the Android operating system that have nothing, or very little, to envy the Apple option.
And we’re not talking about classic bitten apple rivals, like Samsung with its Galaxy S or Google with its Pixel, but ASUS with its ASUS Zenfone 10, a high-end terminal that includes the latest Qualcomm processors and some very interesting features.

ASUS Zenfone 10 VS Apple iPhone 14 Pro, which phone is worth buying?
ASUS may not be one of the first brands that comes to mind when talking about rivals to the iPhone 14 Pro, but its ASUS Zenfone 10 is a candidate to consider when renewing the terminal because it offers a fairly balanced and satisfying experience at a price that starts below 1,000 dollars, something less and less common in this range of mobile phones.
Quality screens in pocket size
It is increasingly difficult to find high-end compact smartphones. Apple tried it with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini, and ended up not launching a successor, possibly because sales weren’t as expected. And it is that we live in the era of social networks, videos and other audiovisual content that are more appreciated on larger screens, but not all users want to carry “bricks” in their pockets.
Without being overly compact, the iPhone 14 Pro and ASUS Zenfone 10 have screens neither too big nor too small:
- iPhone 14 Pro: 6.1-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED ProMotion (1-120Hz) compatible with HDR10 and Dolby Vision, reaching 2,000 nits of brightness at specific times, and AOD function.
- ASUS Zenfone 10: 5.9-inch Samsung AMOLED with 144Hz refresh rate (only in some games), 1100 nits peak brightness and Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
5.9 and 6.1 inches are two sizes that are not difficult to use with one hand (although it also depends on its size). They have good image quality and the experience is satisfactory with either option, although there are some differences to consider:
- The maximum brightness of 1100 nits on the ASUS Zenfone 10 may seem somewhat limited in 2023, whereas the iPhone can reach 2000 nits (although this is in particular times).
- ASUS 144Hz is only available in game mode, and not with all titles, just a few. On a daily basis, the panel oscillates between 60 and 120 Hz (no, it’s not LTPO like the iPhone).
Powerful processor so that nothing stands in your way
Both terminals have the best of each house. Apple, unlike what it did with the “normal” iPhone 14, has equipped the 14 Pro and Pro Max with the A16 Bionic, one of the best smartphone chips on the market. But the ASUS Zenfone 10 is not far behind, since integrate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2the latest beast for high end android mobile phones prime.
In neither of the two proposals will there be problems when running demanding applications or playing titles with high graphics load, although it is true that the best experience with the ASUS Zenfone 10 is obtained when configured with 16 GB of RAMsince Android handles it differently than iOS and it can come in handy when working with software that requires raw power.
Autonomy to hold (and hold, and hold…)
Apple has done a very good job of optimizing its mobile devices to have remarkable battery life. The iPhone 14 Pro, according to the brand, It is capable of lasting up to 23 hours of video playback. In other words: you can easily make two days out of it to good use.
Achieving good battery life is more complicated on Android devices because more factors come into play. Each product incorporates different hardware and software modifications (layers of customization). However, The Xataka colleagues in charge of carrying out the analysis of the ASUS Zenfone 10 were pleasantly surprised.
The battery of the device is 4,300 mAh and ASUS claims to have managed to improve the figures of its predecessor thanks to the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 by optimizing energy consumption. It easily reaches a day and a half of almost intensive use, and without excessively touching it, it reaches more than three days.
It seems, The ZenUI customization layer consumes few resources and it also helps maintain battery life without “ghosting” drain in the background. We must even take into account that it is able to restrict certain notifications if the applications are not configured correctly.
The photographic section is the (most) weak point of the ASUS Zenfone 10
Those of Cupertino are a reference in cameras for smartphones, especially in video recording (There are phones that do a spectacular job, better than the iPhone, when it comes to taking pictures). That’s why it’s no surprise that the iPhone 14 Pro does a better job than the ASUS Zenfone 10 in this section.
Does this mean ASUS Zenfone 10 cameras are bad? No. In the Xataka analysis, they concluded that the photos are good and the device is on another level of image stabilization. The criticism is in the ASUS processing, which has room for improvement. Although it has evolved from previous generations, the wide angle is compromised in many situations, especially at night.
And the price
Between the iPhone 14 Pro and the ASUS Zenfone 10 there is another point where they differ a lot: the price.
Apple’s smartphone starts at 1,319 dollars with 128 GB of internal storage. The ASUS proposal does it for 829 dollars (8 GB + 128 GB), so there is a difference of almost 500 dollars.
