The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom couldn’t have been inspired by elder ringbecause everyone who made it was too busy.
It’s no secret that Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has drawn a lot of inspiration from the Zelda franchise over the years. Elden Ring itself is no exception, with an equally impressive open world that really encourages you to explore it. But not the other way around, and in a new interview with RTL Nieuws (translated from Nintendo Everything), Tears of the Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma talk about their influences and where their ideas came from. As it turns out, Elden Ring wasn’t one of them, as they didn’t even have time to play it.
“Sorry, we really didn’t get a chance to play the game,” Fujibayashi said. “We were so focused on the development of Tears of Kingdoms that we couldn’t actually play the game. We did hear about it, though.” Tears of Kingdoms is a pretty massive game, so it took a lot of developer time. It is no surprise that most of the time. In addition, “Tears of the Kingdom” was basically completed last year, and the rest of the time is spent on polishing, and there is no time to draw inspiration anyway.
More interestingly, though, Aonuma has another reason for not drawing inspiration from other games: he’s “too proud.” “Of course, in some cases, you’re going to make something similar to an existing game,” said the longtime Zelda series producer. “But I would never try to incorporate someone else’s ideas into mine. In the game. I’m very proud of it.” I’m always looking for original ideas. Nintendo is known for being unique in the industry, so it’s not surprising to hear Eiji Aonuma’s mindset when it comes to game development.
While “Elden Ring” and “Tears of Kingdoms” are somewhat comparable, there is one difference between them, and that is sales. “Tears of Kingdoms” sold 10 million copies in its first three days, a feat faster than “Elden Ring”‘s 13.4 million copies in its first month.
