Developer Upstream Arcade has shared the second trailer for Hellboy Web of Wyrd, the upcoming roguelike action-brawler game based on Mike Mignola’s supernatural comic series, during Tuesday’s ID@Xbox Digital Showcase. After just under a minute, the trailer showed a first look at it Web of Wyrd‘s gameplay, as well as prominent portrayal of Lance Reddick (John Wick, The Wire), who was announced as the voice of Hellboy in December before his death in March.
First revealed at last year’s Game Awards, Hellboy Web of Wyrd Centers Hellboy, who embarks on a mission to rescue a Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (aka BPRD) agent who has mysteriously disappeared while investigating an occult mansion called the Butterfly House. Navigating the corridors of the house transports Hellboy into the Wyrd – a primordial realm of supernatural beings and powerful secrets. To save the agent and avert a horrible fate, Hellboy must do what he does best: punch, shoot, and joke in order to navigate his way through an onslaught of demonic enemies.
Set in the canon of Mike Mignola’s comic book series and featuring an original story penned by Mignola himself, Hellboy Web of Wyrd features an art style that attempts to faithfully recreate the comic’s German Expressionism-inspired aesthetic, with strong shadows and distinctive black silhouettes combined with bright colors. Upstream Arcade has been quiet on game development lately, especially given the tragic death of Reddick. This new trailer is an encouraging sign of that Hellboy Web of Wyrd
Hellboy Web of Wyrd will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Windows PC and can be wishlisted on Steam.
