Now that comes as a bit of a surprise. In a Spanish interview, composer Gustavo Santaolalla hints at a revised version of The Last of Us: Part II.
Composer Gustavo Santaolalla is deeply involved in The Last of Us, having created the music for both the games and the HBO series. Not only that, in the second part he also has a cameo in an early part of the game where you can watch him playing music on his Ronroco.
When asked about the same performance by a Spanish YouTube channel, he slipped out that there was a new version where players could make him play different songs. After that, Santaolalla made and, so to speak, refused any further statement.
This could confirm previous rumors that an Art Director’s Cut or Enhanced Edition of the game is in the works. Industry insider Tom Henderson had already made corresponding statements last year. Some job advertisements in autumn also fueled these assumptions.
The game received a PS5 upgrade a long time ago, but a remaster is not so unlikely. For one thing, the second season of the HBO series is coming up at some point and a remake of the game could sell well there again. In addition, a PC version of The Last of Us: Part II, which could be based on a possible remaster or director’s cut, is not excluded. Despite recent rather moderate launches and a technically rather botched PC version of The Last of Us: Part I at the beginning, Sony has continued to use the PC as a platform.
The Last of Us is certainly one of Sony’s and developer Naughty Dog’s great workhorses. The second part of the series has now sold over 10 million copies and the HBO series adaptation was also immensely successful and is now even nominated for a total of 24 Emmys.
