The fans have finally been heard! Kana Editions have just announced the upcoming arrival of Slam Dunk in its deluxe version. Lovers of Takehiko Inoue’s cult manga as well as newcomers alike can finally get their hands on the finest edition of this timeless work. All details.
The slam dunk legend
There are many sports manga, and then there is slam dunk, the undisputed legend of the genre that continues to break popularity records to this day. Takehiko Inoue’s manga is probably the ultimate reference for sports manga, an absolute cult work that contributed significantly to the success of Weekly Shōnen Jump in the 90s and brilliantly met the challenge of succeeding the unbeatable Dragon Ball.
With more than 170 million volumes in circulation, Slam Dunk is now one of the top 10 best-selling manga of all time, but also one of the best-selling comics in the world. As I’m sure you understood, Slam Dunk is a real monument that’s also in the news as the animated film “The First Slam Dunk” is coming to cinemas in France soon.
Coinciding with this event, while the Japan Expo is in full swing, Kana Editions have just released a particularly encouraging announcement: the deluxe edition of the manga will be released very soon after France.
The Deluxe Edition is finally here
Fans have been asking for this for years, and Kana has just granted their wish: the deluxe edition of Slam Dunk finally arrives in France. We currently have two editions. The first appeared from 1999 and the Star Edition, which reduces the number of volumes from 31 to 20 and offers a fresco visible throughout the back cover of the volumes. The upcoming Deluxe is a real game changer, Kana has already revealed all the details.
The deluxe edition thus comprises a total of 24 volumes in the larger A5 format. Each cover features one of the series’ main characters, and the volumes include color pages. In contrast to the 60 gram paper of the Star Edition, a 130 gram Condat Mat paper was chosen.
On the other hand, the deluxe will not include a synopsis or a word from the author. In short, a refined version that focuses on premium quality above all else. Obviously this deluxe edition is sold at a higher price: Each volume costs 13.95 dollars, making a total of 334.80 dollars for the entire series. See you in early 2024 to discover this new edition.
