After the great success of Horizon: Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games has meanwhile added the equally successful Horizon: Forbidden West. There has also been plenty of speculation about a third part – and now it’s clear: it shouldn’t just stay with one!
The success story of the Horizon series around protagonist Aloy in a post-apocalyptic world full of machines should continue “for a long time”. The men from Guerrilla Games have expressly emphasized this and should make fan hearts beat faster.
During a session at Develop Brighton, several studio members from Guerrilla Games were present and in the process also confirmed a comment that creative director Mathijs de Jonge made last year. At the time, he said that thanks to the cliffhanger at the end of Forbidden West, the team “have set some things up for the next game”. In short: Part 3 of the action series seemed a done deal even then.
Better still: Beyond a fully-fledged third part, further Horizon games are to follow. There will definitely be more than one game, according to Studio Director Jan-Bart van Beek; the studio has at least 16 plans for this that are being discussed.
Guerrilla is currently working on a multiplayer game in the world of Aloy, and there have also been rumors in the past about an MMO that is said to be in the works at NCsoft’s Guild Wars makers. Far away from the games industry, a Netflix adaptation in series form is also being worked on. For Horizon fans, the rosy times are obviously just beginning!
