With Marathon, the Destiny makers at Bungie have a new shooter in the works – and now they’re getting very prominent support on board for this.
Bungie is working behind the scenes on the extraction shooter Marathon and has big ambitions with it. This is underlined once again by the fact that very prominent support is brought on board: Andrew Witts.
Witts was the former multiplayer lead for Halo Infinite, so is a highly decorated developer in the industry. Previously, he also worked on the long-running Fortnite and the tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege – so he has plenty of experience in the action area. At Marathon he will be the future Gameplay Design Director.
Witts confirmed via Twitter that he has already completed his first week at Bungie and that he will devote himself to marathon in the future. He looks forward to working with “this brilliant and incredibly talented team”.
Marathon was introduced at the PlayStation Showcase in May. It will be Bungie’s first game for PS5 and PC as part of PlayStation Studios – and it’s the first new game since Destiny. It’s a nod to an earlier brand, as the original Marathon is a first-person shooter from 1994. The setting is several centuries in the future, so it has a decent sci-fi vibe.
