Longtime players return to EA Sports FC 24, but will their reign of terror continue?
Whether it’s TOTS Kane’s deadly speed, Winter Wildcards Varane’s tractor beam defense, or plain old Gold Virgil van Dijk’s elite animations, Longy players may not be as strong now as they were when FIFA 23 started, but some of them are still pretty good – if Shapeshifter Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s usage rate is accurate.
Previously, all players were divided into three AcceleRATE archetypes – Explosive, Controlling, and Lengthy – and in EA Sports FC 24, this number has more than doubled, with players categorized as “most Explosive” or “mostly verbose” on a statistical scale.
Controlling players achieve top speed gradually, while explosive players reach top speed almost immediately but level off with distance. On the other hand, long players take longer to accelerate but can build momentum, allowing them to catch up to other players. In practice, this means that long players are able to cover the court as quickly as possible, since opponents’ long dribbles involve greater distances. But in EA Sports FC, there will be a wider range of running styles than just a blanket style for tall, medium, and short players.
In FIFA 23, Lengthy and Explosive are calculated based on the difference between a player’s Agility and Strength attributes (while also taking minimum height and speed into account). So it stands to reason that in EA Sports FC 24 the new AcceleRATE prototype will trigger at different thresholds between these stats.
“The longy is definitely back,” said EA Sports Senior Producer Sam Rivera in a recent Gameplay Deep Dive video.
“With Hypermotion V, we recorded twice as fast prototypes, which means more uniqueness, more differences, just like in real life.
“We’ve basically gone from dozens of signature running styles to over 1,200. It’s not just our previous stars in the game, it’s everybody on the field.”
