Rumors about a new PlayStation 5 model have been around for a long time. While a Pro model could probably be released in 2024, there should be a Slim version this year. According to a leaker, it may soon be decided whether this is really the case.
The prominent leaker and gaming insider Shpeshal_Nick from XboxEra has now spoken up again – and that’s always worth a look, after the leaker has regularly hit the mark in the past. According to its latest information, the presentation of a PlayStation 5 Slim could take place within a few weeks.
According to Shpeshal_Nick, Sony is considering holding another showcase in August and presenting the new version of the PlayStation 5 as part of this. That would fit in nicely, as there’s been widespread speculation that Sony may have deliberately shown less content and withheld some things in the light of the litigation surrounding Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard at the Showcase in May. So there have been rumors about another big showcase this summer.
If the leaker is right (again) with his info, then an August showcase could reveal the price and release date of the PlayStation 5 Slim.
There have also been rumors of a slim version of the current home console for some time; this should be thinner, among other things, by a removable drive; such an option could then be added – at least that’s what the rumor mill has said so far. Microsoft also assumes such an idea, as can be seen from the documents in the legal dispute with the FTC. The Redmond competition even has a clear asking price of $399.99 and is also assuming a September launch – which in turn would also match an August presentation.
So if you’re thinking about buying a PlayStation 5, it might be worth waiting a few more weeks to see what Sony is up to.
