First it was just a leak on the Spanish Amazon website, now it’s official. Giant ape King Kong is doing the honors in a new video game, and it’s coming out pretty soon.
In autumn it gets awkward. As first seen on the Spanish Amazon website, Skull Island: Rise of Kong, a new game about the legendary giant ape, will be released in autumn 2023. The game is said to be a third-person action-adventure that will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. In the meantime, the leak has also been confirmed by an official announcement along with a trailer.
Based on the game’s description, you take on the role of Kong to avenge the death of his parents who were killed by Gaw, the leader of a dinosaur family on Skull Island. Apparently, the game takes you back to the origins of Kong, because you start as an orphan and experience the development to become the king of Skull Island. Of course, there will be a lot of beating against waves of primal beasts and unique bosses. The island’s flora and fauna seem to play a role in fueling Kong’s massive powers.
The combat system obviously relies on combos and Kong’s raging fury. He also gains new abilities through various events and boss fights. And you’ll explore mountainous terrain, jungles, swamps, skull-toothed caves, and more to find collectibles, unlock new areas, and learn about the mysterious history of this far-off land.
The game is apparently being developed by the Chilean studio Iguanabee, which previously had a handful of indie productions in its portfolio. The studio’s last product was the third-person shooter GI Joe: Operation Blackout. GameMill Entertainment acts as publisher
