Crossfading between tracks – fading to the end of the current track while fading to the start of the next to eliminate gaps in playback – has been a feature of most consumer music apps for many years. It’s been a feature of Apple Music’s biggest competitor, Spotify, for ages, and it’s been a feature of the Mac version of Apple Music since…well, it even dates back to the days of iTunes.
But for some reason, Apple Music on iOS and iPadOS never offered a crossfade feature, despite constant shouting from the community. With iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, that finally changes. Here’s how to turn the crossfade on or off and adjust the length of the transition.
- Time to complete: 1 minute
- Tools needed: none
- Hardware required: iPhone with iOS 17
- Cost: 0

Look for crossfade options in the Audio section

Scroll to Music section and you will see a toggle for Crossfade. Tap the switch to turn it on or off. When activated, a slider allows you to select the duration of the crossfade from 1 to 12 seconds.
