Netflix’s live-action series One Piece premieres August 31. A new trailer has been unveiled to mark the manga anniversary. It promises.
This will be the end of summer event. After years of work, the live-action series One Piece is finally airing. A longtime dream for Eiichiro Oda, the manga’s creator, who dreamed of seeing his work adapted to the small screen. It’s Netflix on the daunting task of bringing this fantasy to life, and early previews have been far from convincing for longtime fans. Special effects were considered outdated, unnatural hair colors, tone too unconventional for his liking – criticism hailed the community as newcomers were intrigued by those first images. To celebrate One Piece Day, a new trailer has been unveiled that features absolutely iconic characters and scenes. In other words, it’s more reassuring.
A stunning trailer for the One Piece series
Netflix just released a new trailer for the One Piece series. No wonder, because the Weekly Shonen Jump revealed a lot in its last issue. In this longer trailer we find the Straw Hat crew, but also new iconic characters that we haven’t seen before. The opportunity to personally find Mihawk, Shanks, Arlong but also the king of pirates: Gol.D Roger. No big failures in sight this time, all the designs of the outstanding performers are successful except for the fish man who does not fail to amuse certain netizens and we cannot blame them. Others find that Shanks lacks charisma compared to the original work.
These new snippets don’t hesitate to increase the suspense by revealing some images of the most iconic moments from the East Blue arcs. We can see Shanks giving his hat to Luffy, Zoro versus Mihawk or even the most poignant scene with Nami, all accompanied by multiple fight scenes. In short, Netflix released the bundle a month before its One Piece series aired. In any case, the reactions are much more positive than for what has been shown so far. Some critics say they take comfort when others stick to their position: they will not give this adjustment a chance.
The very dedicated manga creator
We recall that Eiichiro Oda, the manga’s creator, took his role as executive producer very seriously. Actors like Netflix employees are formal, nothing has been validated without their consent. The author also wanted to reassure his oldest fans: Netflix has committed to only broadcasting the One Piece series when he is completely satisfied. In a letter to his community, he explained that there would be no compromises for the series and that he was asking for several scenes to be reshot because they weren’t good enough for his liking. The result is definitely much more reassuring and the success seems to be there. At the time of going to press, the new trailer has already had over 2 million views within a few hours.
In any case, the first reviews were full of praise for this series. ” It’s just incredibly fun to watch. The series embraces the silly and funny nature of One Piece to the point that I had a goofy smile on my face in many scenes. ‘ declared one lucky selectee who was able to spot the adaptation in the preview.
