Unfortunately for gamers, Japanese publisher Bandai Namco has already announced the end of a title modeled after a legendary license. It really didn’t take long…
In the world of video games, like anywhere else, it’s do or die. If a piece of software fails to merge at launch, things can get complicated for him. Some have returned from Hell, like Cyberpunk 2077, while others are resting in peace. A Bandai Namco production joins the ranks of other titles released too early (or too late, as the case may be).
It’s over for this Bandai Namco game from an iconic brand
In general, online games have a raison d’être for several years unless the result isn’t there and/or the players are sorely absent. This is the risk involved in initiating a project of this nature, but companies are always willing to take this risk. After trying to revive a popular Japanese animation franchise, Bandai Namco finally throws in the towel.
Next November you’ll have to say goodbye to Gundam Evolution. A free multiplayer game published and developed by Bandai Namco itself that featured player versus player battles. « Gundam Evolution is a free first person and team shooter. Featuring 6v6 PvP battles. Three objective-based game modes await you: Score Conquest, Domination, and Destruction. Each game mode offers its own unique challenges. To emerge victorious, each team must develop and apply advanced offensive and defensive strategies.. A title that originally should have had a sequel to Bandai Namco with news, maps, robots, game modes and objects to customize the mechas. Forget it all, it’s over!
Here is the statement from Kazuya Maruyama, Executive Producer of Gundam Evolution. “Thank you all for your unwavering support. I’m Kazuya Maruyama, Executive Producer at GE. It is with great sadness that we announce the end of the game. The service will end on November 30, 2023. Our desire was to create a game that would bring first-person shooter fans and Gundam fans together. We put our heart and soul into creating a Gundam shooter that will touch players all over the world.
Unfortunately, we found that we could not continue to provide our players with a service that satisfied them. We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has enjoyed our game and supported us along the way. We apologize to our fans and players for this sad news.” (via the official website). Following this news, Bandai Namco detailed his plans to end the game.
Gundam Evolution is dead, long live Armored Core 6
It’s the end… but not complete. Bandai Namco will pull the plug with no problem. Updates will continue until Season 7 releases. “Updates will continue with Season 6 (with the addition of a new unit and two new maps) on August 24th and the final season (with the addition of a new unit and new map) on October 26th. We will do everything to ensure players can enjoy the game until the end ».
Bandai Namco has listed the three most important dates to remember:
- August 26, 2023: Season 6 update with two new maps, a new unit, and increased capital points. This way, players don’t have to buy EVO Coins.
- October 26, 2023: Update for Season 7. Once again, a new map and unit is expected, with an increase in capital points. Accuracy but: “In Season 7 it will no longer be possible to win a special title”
- November 30, 2023 at 2 a.m. (French time): It’s the end, the real thing. Game, items and EVO Coins are unusable
If Bandai Namco no longer believes in Gundam Evolution, the publisher still believes in the divine power of mechas. It’s thanks to the company and FromSoftware (Elden Ring) that Armored Core 6 is finally a reality. It will be available on August 25, 2023 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
