game news “It was a resounding failure” According to Microsoft, Call of Duty survived one of the worst decisions of its existence

Call of Duty has been in the headlines for the past few days due to Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision. Especially during the trial against the FTC, Microsoft sharply criticized certain decisions made by the American publisher, with which it still wants to merge.
Battle.net has been highlighted
Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard has made it possible to get a little more behind-the-scenes insight into the world of video games. It also allowed us to get some opinions, such as Jim Ryan’s on Game Pass, Satya Nadella on exclusive offers, or Microsoft lawyers on Battle.net
. In fact, it is about a document linked to the recent hearing and picked up by PC gamerwhat we learn that the Redmond company judges that “Activision’s attempt to make Call of Duty digital PC retail exclusive to its Battle.net platform was a complete failure“. In 2018, the famous publisher decided to stop publishing CODs on Steam in favor of exclusivity on its Battle.net platform.
“Prior to 2018, Activision sold digital versions of Call of Duty titles for PC on Valve’s successful Steam platform” we can read in the document. “In 2018, Activision decided to remove the game from Steam and make it exclusively available on Battle.net, primarily in an effort to attract users to and expand its platform. The monthly number of active Battle.net users has remained relatively stable during the period that Battle.net had exclusive access to Call of Duty digital sales on PC, from 2018 to 2022
says Microsoft. With this statement, the group led by Satya Nadella hoped to prove in court that Activision’s attempts to limit the availability of Call of Duty had proved unsuccessful and that it would therefore be stupid of Microsoft to make this franchise exclusive to Xbox.. The argument apparently worked, as Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley recently denied the FTC’s request for an injunction that could have temporarily blocked the proposed acquisition.
Partly Call of Duty
Whether Microsoft manages to complete the acquisition or not, we know today that Call of Duty will continue to be cross-platform.
. If the Redmond-based company manages to snag the publisher, it has already committed to bringing Call of Duty to various cloud platforms, but also to Nintendo Switch. The company co-founded by Bill Gates has in fact signed partnerships with Nintendo, Sony but also NVIDIA to ensure COD’s non-exclusivity for at least 10 years. As for the little war between Steam and Battle.net, it might not last long as Blizzard has announced that Overwatch 2 will be the first game of the group to land on Steam soon.
